A hard frost covered the landscape this morning turning everything it touched white and fluffy, I grabbed my camera and took my dog for her early morning walk. During our walks we pass through the allotments and I always take the opportunity to check my plot. Today I took spent a little longer than usual there, breathing in fresh icy air and thoroughly enjoying the peace and quiet.
Frost on brassica
I was so cold I couldn’t feel my toes but all I could think about was how sweet the parsnips will be now! After a while I left the allotment and carried on walking my dog to the nearby fields.
My lovely girl is 10 now but still jumps around like a puppy, she didn’t seem to mind the cold one bit but I was glad to get home for a hot cup of tea!
Step inside the world of allotments, where people grow vegetables on rented parcels of land and drink tea in their characterful sheds. From times of hardship during wartime famine to present day, allotments are great places to connect with the land and each one has its own identity and gardening style.
I’ve had an allotment since 2011 and grow food using the ‘no dig’ approach to gardening. I'm passionate about the fascinating wildlife I share my allotment with and strive to garden with them in mind, creating habitats and encouraging natural predators to help keep my allotment productive.
The aim of this blog is to document the growing year on my allotments, share the ups and downs of allotment life and hopefully inspire others to get an allotment too!

She is so beautifull !
In Brittany, we have rain, rain and rain… we can manage to sow some broadbeans between two showers only now. Two month continuously rainy.
Thank you! It’s been very rainy here in England too, more rain than usual and places flooding. The frost made a pleasant change from the mud, then it melted away a few hours later so back to mud again!
