Putting the Zing into Spring

Nothing says “Spring has sprung” more than daffodils. Sunny and bright, the golden flowers pierce through the grey veil of rainy days which have dominated for quite some time. Garden centres are bursting at the seams with flowering spring bulbs at the moment, so if you didn’t get some bulbs in the ground you have another chance to add a pop of colour to your allotment. I did a spot of plant retail therapy and picked up a tray of Narcissus Tete-a-tete, a popular dwarf daffodil that will withstand a wind battering on my exposed plot.

Yesterday was surprisingly warm in the sunshine and a rare break from the rain, I grabbed the opportunity to visit my allotment to plant the little daffodils. I tidied and planted up a terracotta pot that sits outside the shed and then removed stubborn grass roots from the wildlife area ready for underplanting the forsythia shrubs. Rosie pretended to supervise but all she really wanted to do was sit on my comfy kneeling pad. Smart dog.

Cute little paw prints

The daffodils certainly cheer up the allotment and me too!
