Day time temperatures are fairly mild at the moment, so much so that you could be fooled into thinking spring has sprung.
Yesterday I planted up a new strawberry bed using runners from the current strawberry patch. The plan is to clear the messy old plants and then extend into the old rhubarb patch to gain another good-sized raised bed.

The sky looked dark and gloomy as I planted my little strawberry plants into their new position, the forecast a yellow warning for heavy downpours coming in late afternoon and continuing all night, there’s been so much rain falling on already saturated ground. I finished planting and made my way home before the rain arrived, disappointed that I couldn’t stay longer to get the whole job of bed clearing/extending finished.
I forgot to share some photos on the blog of recent harvests and things growing, so here they are:

Today is certainly not a day for working on the allotment, the ground is far too soggy. I will have a sort through my seed box and continue planning the growing year ahead.

All looks amazing – love this time of year! x

You’re lucky to done what you did given the rain and soggy ground.
The carrots and parsnips look rather impressive. xx

Yes I think so too Flighty, hopefully the ground will dry out enough to allow more allotment time for all of us. Thank you, I’m very pleased with them and so tasty xx

You are reminding me that I need to deal with my strawberries! Your setup looks good. I have never grown parsnips, but those look huge!!!

I usually forget to tidy my strawberry patch, but I do like to leave some cover for the overwintering ladybirds. The parsnips are a good size, very pleased with them!

That’s right isn’t it? I think I have noticed ladybugs (that’s what we call them here) overwintering in strawberries. I also often see them sheltering under the leaves of persimmons for the winter.
